Run Tuscaloosa, a combined Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup 5K for Pre-K and Tuscaloosa Half Marathon event, relies heavily on its volunteers. Without people like you, we cannot put on this wonderful event raising money for four great causes. Past volunteers have been recognized and thanked many times by past participants as a result of their dedication and hard work.
Why should I volunteer?
Your time benefits the Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup and Tuscaloosa Half Marathon runners, walkers and guests by providing help in a variety of areas. More importantly, volunteers provide the energy and enthusiasm to help encourage runners to the finish line!Also, volunteering for this event will show your support to our local community and the benefiting organizations, The Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa,ReadBAMARead and Arts ‘n Autism, as well as the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative! All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and breakfast, in addition to the thanks and gratitude of the race committee and the running community.
Who should volunteer?
It is the goal of the Run Tuscaloosa committee to receive positive comments from runners about how well the race is organized and how friendly and helpful the volunteers are. If the following characteristics describe you, we’d love to have you lend your time and talent to the event:

How do I volunteer?
You can sign up to volunteer three different ways.
- Simply click the button below and complete the volunteer form. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact all volunteers prior to the Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup and Tuscaloosa Half Marathon. Please note, there will be a volunteer meeting prior to race weekend. Those details will be released at a later date.
- If you are with a group of individuals that are interested in volunteering, please email firstname.lastname@example.org – we’d love to have your group!
- If your business or organization is interested in sponsoring a full mile of the course, which would include having volunteers in that area, providing entertainment and more, please email email@example.com
Brief overview of volunteer roles:
Race Bag stuffing: These volunteers will be responsible for assisting the race committee stuff all registered participant bags the week prior to the race. A date and time will be determined at a later date. If a community group or organization is interested in helping, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Packet Pick-up: These volunteers will help the race committee check in all registered participants and provide them with their race shirt, bib, timing chip and bag of goodies. Volunteers will be needed for Friday, March 23rd and prior to the race on Saturday, March 24th.
Race Expo: These volunteers will help with the initial set up of race expo, help exhibitors and sponsors check in and settled in. They will also be the liaison to the exhibitors in case something is needed. Slots will be available for both Friday, March 23rd and Saturday, March 24th.
Information Booth: These volunteers will assist runners and sponsors with any questions they might have. A resource guide will be provided to help answer questions pertaining to the event, course, parking, set up and more.
Course Marshall: These volunteers will help ensure the safety of each runner along the course, as well as encourage runners as they pass by!
Course set up: These volunteers will assist the Course Director both the day before and on race day with a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, mile markers, identifying water/aid stations, chalking course to help identify upcoming turns, start and finish areas and more.
Start Line support: These volunteers will help all participants congregate to the start line, as well as ensuring runners are lining up accordingly. Start Line Volunteers will also be responsible for keeping all runners from crossing the start line before the start gun goes off.
Finish Line support: These volunteers will help keep all things running smoothly in the finish area. Volunteers will help keep finishers moving along so that they area does not get congested, hand out finisher medals and guide people towards the post-race party activities.
Water/Aid Station: These volunteers will help set up, clean up and break down the Replenishment stations. In addition, they will also help hand out beverages and other items (provided by the race committee) to participants during the race. More details will be provided to assist with the set up in an effort to keep each station consistent with one another.
